Skardu Honeymoon Guide: Ideas & Itinerary

Weekend VikingsJuly 2, 20262 min read

In short

Skardu is one of Pakistan's most romantic honeymoon destinations — the Shangrila and Kachura lakes, the Sarfaranga cold desert, Shigar and Khaplu forts, and easy fly-in access. A relaxed 4–6 day fly-in trip with a private car and a lakeside stay is ideal. Best from spring to autumn.

For couples who want mountains, lakes and a bit of romance without a punishing itinerary, Skardu is hard to beat. With a quick flight in, calm turquoise lakes and handsome old forts, it makes a dreamy honeymoon. Here's how to plan it.

Why Skardu for a honeymoon?

Skardu, the heart of Baltistan, has the ingredients: the famously pretty Shangrila (Lower Kachura) Lake and Upper Kachura Lake, the surreal Sarfaranga cold desert, the restored Shigar and Khaplu forts, and a backdrop of some of the world's highest mountains. And because there's an airport, you can fly in and spend your days exploring rather than driving.

A suggested fly-in itinerary

  • Day 1: Fly Islamabad–Skardu; check in by the lake; gentle evening at Shangrila / Lower Kachura.
  • Day 2: Upper Kachura Lake, Manthoka Waterfall and the Sarfaranga cold desert (sunset over the dunes is magic).
  • Day 3: Shigar Valley and Fort, Blind Lake and the old town.
  • Day 4: Khaplu — fort, palace and the Sailing Fish Farm — or a relaxed lake day.
  • Days 5–6 (optional): Basho meadows or a Deosai plateau day trip.

Our Skardu By Air honeymoon trips follow exactly this kind of relaxed, private-car pace.

Where to stay

Skardu has lovely lakeside and boutique options — from resorts near Shangrila to comfortable town hotels. Browse our Skardu stays for handpicked, honeymoon-friendly choices with mountain views.

Fly or drive?

For a honeymoon, flying (about an hour) is usually the move — you skip two long road days and arrive relaxed. Flights are weather-dependent, so keep a buffer day or a road backup in mind (see our road-trip guide).

Best time to go

April–October is ideal — comfortable weather and open roads, with spring blossom and autumn colour especially romantic. Winter is beautiful but cold, with some sights snowbound.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Skardu good for a honeymoon?
Yes — Skardu is a top honeymoon choice in Pakistan. The Shangrila and Kachura lakes, the Sarfaranga cold desert, historic Shigar and Khaplu forts and dramatic mountain scenery make it romantic and photogenic, and the fly-in option keeps it relaxed rather than exhausting.
How many days do you need for a Skardu honeymoon?
4–6 days is ideal. Four fly-in days cover the essentials (Kachura lakes, cold desert, Shigar); 5–6 days comfortably adds Khaplu, Basho meadows or a Deosai day, at an unhurried, romantic pace.
Should we fly or drive to Skardu for a honeymoon?
For a honeymoon, flying (about an hour from Islamabad) is usually best — you save two long days on the road and arrive fresh. Flights are weather-dependent, so it's wise to keep a buffer day or a road backup (see our Islamabad to Skardu by road guide).
What is the best time for a Skardu honeymoon?
Spring to autumn (April–October) — comfortable weather, open roads and green-to-golden scenery. Spring blossom and autumn colour are especially pretty; deep winter is cold and some sights are snowbound.
