A demanding but hugely rewarding trek to Rush Lake (4,694m) — among the highest alpine lakes on the planet — above the Hopar valley in Nagar.
From the lake and the Rush Pari viewpoint you’re surrounded by giants: Rakaposhi, Diran, Spantik and the great Barpu and Miar glaciers. For fit trekkers with some altitude experience.
Long drive up the Karakoram Highway to Chilas. Overnight.
Continue to Nagar and the Hopar valley, the trailhead, with views of the Hopar glacier. Overnight.
Cross the Barpu glacier and trek to the Miar meadows camp.
Climb steadily to the Rush Lake base camp beneath Rush Pari peak. Acclimatise.
Summit day to Rush Lake and the viewpoint for the full panorama of peaks, then back to camp.
Trek back down across the glacier to Hopar.
Drive to Gilgit for the flight to Islamabad, or begin the road journey home.
